CLAT 2014 Analysis

* The difficulty level of a section is assessed as a function of both the toughness of questions as well as the
deviation from the expected pattern.

Sectional Analysis:

1. English & Comprehension:

This section was along the expected lines with a distribution across various areas similar to CLAT 2013. With just one RC passage, the section becomes the easiest section of CLAT 14. The rough distribution is:

Question TypeNo of Questions
English & ComprehensionReading Comprehension10
Spellings5
Foreign Terms5
Idioms & Phrases5
Grammar10
Parajumbles5

2. Logical Reasoning:

This section, was focussed more on the analytical reasoning than verbal. With all the questions from the
typically expected areas, this section would have been easy to negotiate for well prepared students (read
ALP students) ;-). The rough distribution is:

Question TypeNo of Questions
Logical ReasoningSyllogisms & Statement based10
Analogies5
Blood relations5
Series & Coding5
Puzzles & Arrangement15

3. Legal Aptitude:

This section was a pleasant surprise as opposed to last year’s section. Most questions were simpler
application of legal principles that are usually known to a well prepared students. Hence we rate this
section as easy to moderate in terms of difficulty level. The rough distribution is:

Question TypeNo of Questions
Legal AptitudeAssertion Reasoning (Const. law)0
Fact Based with Principle50

4. Mathematics:

This section threw no surprises with questions spread across arithmetic topics like percentages, ratios,
time-speed-distance, and a few questions from algebra as well. This would again have been easy to handle
for ALP champs.

5. General Knowledge:

More than half the questions in the GK section were from ‘Static GK’ and some of them tested knowledge of
multiple trivia in the form of match the following or so. Current affairs questions were simpler to crack.
Overall, we rate the section as moderate to tough. More detailed analysis of this section follows in a week.
