1. Overview

Himachal Pradesh National Law University Shimla (HPNLU Shimla) is a National Law University located at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was established in 2016 and is the 20th National Law University established in India. Till 2018, the University had a separate entrance exam, the HPNET, but having joined the CLAT Core Committee and the Consortium, it will be one of the 21 participating NLUs for CLAT 2019.

4. Admission Criteria

4.1 B.A. LL. B (Hons)/ B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons)

A candidate, for admission to the B.A./B.B.A LL. B. (Hons.) Degree Courses, is required to have completed 10+2 or equivalent in the first attempt with not less than 50% (45% in the case of SC/ST candidates and persons with disability) aggregate marks.

4.2 LL.M
  • The candidate should have secured LL. B degree or its equivalent from a recognized university, with not less than 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent grade point.
4.3 Ph. D
  • Candidates are required to have an LL.M. Degree or equivalent from any recognised University in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade (without any round-off). They will have to qualify the CLAT-PG, or UGC-NET/JRF/SLET.
  • Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/JRF/SLET can directly submit a research proposal without appearing in the entrance exam.
  • Having qualified through entrance test or UGC-NET/JRF/SLET, a candidate has to submit ‘Research Proposal’ which has to be defended to the satisfaction of Board of Studies in Law of this University.
4.4 PG Diploma Courses
  • An applicant must have a graduate Degree in Law or other relevant field from any University recognized in India or Foreign University recognized as an equivalent with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

5. Intake

• B.A. LL. B (Hons)/ B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons): 60 seats along with 9 supernumerary seats.
• LL.M: 20 seats along with 5 supernumerary seats

6.Fee Structure

• Indian Students: Rs 2,20,500/-
• Foreign Nationals: Rs 9,70,500/-
• SAARC Nationals: Rs 5,70,500/-
