1. Over View

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies or NUALS Kochi previously known as National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies is a uni-disciplinary university in Kochi, India for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate law courses. It is the only National Law University in the state of Kerala.

2. Courses Offered

2.1 For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)

To be admitted to this course aspirants have to clear Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), whichis conducted by national law colleges in rotation.Students will be shortlisted based on their merit. To earn this degree student has to earn 200 points during their course. There are 68 seats for this course.

2.2 For Postgraduate LL.M

NUALS Kochi provide 1-year postgraduate LLM program. Candidate has the option to choose any from the two areas of specializations. To be admitted to this course aspirants have to clear Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), whichdo national law colleges in rotation conduct. 20 students in each LL.M. course are admitted through CLAT.

2.3 For Ph.D. in Law

Eligible candidates who have finished their masters are required to appear the NUALS admission test conducted by the university.
Candidates are then shortlisted based on their score in the admission test. They are then required to present for personal interview.

3. Eligibility

3.1 For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)

The minimum eligibility for joining LLB course by the Entrance exams is that that the student should acquire the cut-off marks in the exam for the Admission on various law colleges. Minimum 45% marks are required for admission. Candidate belongs to socially and educationally backward class of Kerala state must have secured minimum 42% marks in 10+2.

3.2 For Postgraduate LL.M

Minimum graduation in B.A. LL.B., B.Com LL.B, B.Sc. LL.B, LL.B., B.Tech LL.B., B.L.S. LL.B., BBA LL.B. Candidate must have minimum 55 % marks and alsocleared CLAT.

3.3 For Ph.D. in Law

Candidate has to clear NUALS Kochi Admission Test. Minimum eligibility is 55% marks in any of the LL.M course from a recognized university.Candidates are then shortlisted based on their score in the admission test. They are then required to present for personal interview.

4. Fee Structure

4.1 B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Program

(Total fees which includes componenets like Hostel, Tution, Admission, Library, Refundable Deposit)

Total fees INR 7.77 Lakh

Total Course fee NRI sponsored candidates is INR 20,21,100/-
Fees for International student varies depending on the value of Rupees against US Dollar. Additionally, candidates have to pay INR 5,000/- as Caution Deposit which is refundable.
For candidates coming from Institutions outside Kerala have to INR 200/- as recognition fee.
Students who belongs to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) and Other Eligible Communities (OEC) are entitled for educational concessions from the Government of Kerala.

The above-mentioned hostel fee includes hostel rent, hostel amenities charges, mess advance and establishment advance.
Additionally, candidates have to pay INR 6,000/- as hostel deposit which is refundable.

4.2 LL.M. Program

(Total feeincluding refundable deposits)
INR 1.75 lakh

Additionally, candidates have to pay INR 5,000/- as Caution Deposit which is refundable.
For candidates coming from Institutions outside Kerala have to INR 200/- as recognition fee.
Students who belongs to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) and Other Eligible Communities (OEC) are entitled for educational concessions from the Government of Kerala.
