University College of Law Osmania University

1. Overview

The Law Department was established in the Osmania University at the Arts College with a Head and two teachers in 1923. However, teaching of Law was in existence even before Osmania University came into existence in the year 1918. The “Law class” was opened in the year 1899 to give instruction in law to students desirous of joining legal profession along with “Judicial Test” classes for Judicial Officers.

The College offers the 3-year LL.B. course through the semester system.

B.A., LL.B. (5-YearsIntegrated Degree Course)

The University College of Law Osmania University has offered a five-year integrated B.A., LL.B. programme since the academic year 2007-08. It follows the semester system.

LL.M.

LL.M. Master’s degree course is offered at the College in two streams, Regular and Self-Financing. This two years Masters programme is offered through semester system.

Post Graduate Diploma Courses

(i)Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws (PGDCL):

The College offers a One-year Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws (PGDCL).It is open to any Graduate who qualifies in the Entrance Examination conducted by the university. The course is offered in the evening hours and on Self-financing basis. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of the statutory reservation of seats under categories of candidates.
(ii) Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation and Insurance Laws (PGDTIL):

The College also offers a One-year Post Graduate Diploma in Tax and Insurance Laws (PGDTIL).It is open to any Graduate who qualifies in the Entrance Examination conducted by the university. The courses are offered in the evening hours and on Self-financing basis. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of the statutory reservation of seats under categories of candidates.

3. Eligibility

LL.B.

A candidate for admission to LL.B. semester course has to qualify at the LL.B. Common Entrance Examination (LAWCET) for that academic year. The candidates will be admittedly strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of statutory reservation of seats under various categories of candidates.

B.A. LL.B.

To be eligible for admission into the integrated 5-Year B.A. LL.B. course, candidates must have successfully completed their 10+2 or equivalent from any recognised board with a minimum of 45% of the total marks (40% in case of SC or ST applicants).Those who have pursued studies through distance education or correspondence are also eligible to apply.
The applicants who have completed their 10+2 through Open University system directly, without having any basic qualification for pursuing such studies are not eligible for admission into the law courses.

LL.M.

For admission into the LL.M course, a candidate has to qualify at the PGLCET Examination conducted by the A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) for that academic year. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the rules in force in respect of the statutory reservation of seats under categories of candidates.

Post-graduate Diploma Courses and Research Courses

A candidate with any Graduation or equivalent recognized by Osmania University is eligible to apply for the programs.

4. Research

The Department of law offers Ph.D. Programme in two streams, Full Time and Part Time. Candidates who are registered for Ph.D. are classified into two categories:full-time and part-time research scholars. Normally, the duration of the full-time research scholar shall be four years and for a part-time research scholar it shall be five years from the date of joining.
