Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MHCET)

1. Overview
Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test also known as MHCET is the national level entrance examination that is conducted by Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) for the admissions to the B.A LLB programsin colleges/institution offeredin law colleges in the state of Maharashtra.
2. MHCET Syllabus
Section 1-English and Comprehension: Â This section comprises of questions predominantly in the areas of Comprehension passages with minimum two passages followed by 5-10 questions, Synonyms, Antonyms, sentence improvement and rearrangement , Idioms and phrases, Jumble words and sentences, Fill-in the blanks. A very good vocabulary and speed in reading will help the candidates do well in this section. Proficiency in English will be basically tested.
Section 2 -General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Â This section contains of questions on your general awareness of what is happening in the world during the last one year, with an emphasis on India and static general knowledge. It includes History, Geography, General Science, Economics, Civics and Current Affairs.
Section 3-Mathematics:Â This section contains questions based on your knowledge of elementary mathematics taught in school. It includes questions from Profit and Loss, Speed and Distance, Time and Work, Algebra, etc.
Section 4 -Legal Aptitude:Â The Legal aptitude section consists of questions in the areas of Study of law, Research aptitude and Problem solving ability. The questions are framed with the help of legal prepositions. Some of them may not be true. Candidate will have to assume the truth and answer the questions.
Section 5-Logical Reasoning: Â The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test your ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It includes a wide variety of critical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, drawing well-supported conclusions, reasoning by analogy, applying principles and completing arguments. A variety of arrangements, blood relations-based puzzles and analogies are in this section.
3. MHCET Exam pattern
• AILET examination will be conducted in the online mode and the language of attempt will only be English language.
• The exam duration is two hours.
• Only ‘Objective type questions’ will be asked in the exam.
• There are total 150 questions which totals up to 150 marks
• The marking scheme for this exam is such that for every correct answer one mark will be awarded. There is no negative marking provision in the exam.
• The subjects which are tested in the examination includes English, General knowledge, legal aptitude, logical reasoning and elementary mathematics.

4. MHCET Eligibility
For LLB Course
• For 5 year integrated LLB program he/she must have acquired a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 examinations
• For 3 year LLB program he/she must have acquired a minimum of 45% marks in undergraduate degree course
• Nationality of candidate should be Indian.
• Aspirants must have the domicile of Maharashtra state
• Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from any recognized board for integrated five-year course and for three-year course he/she must hold a graduate or postgraduate degree from any recognized institution in any stream.
• The applicant from general category must have acquired45% marks in the qualifying examination.
• The applicant from reserved category must have acquired 40% marks in the qualifying examination.
For LLM Course
• The candidates must have the minimum of 55% marks in LLB or in its equivalent degree for GEN/OBC candidates (50% for SC/ST candidates).
• The foreign national candidates should have an aggregate of 55% marks in qualifying degree for the admission and further called for personal interview in order to check their communication skill in English.
5. How to Apply?
• For GEN/OBC category candidates: Rs. 800/-.
• For Reserved categories: Rs. 400/-.
• The application fee is non-refundable.
• The application fee payment can be done via online mode through internet payment/net banking/credit card/debit card/IMPS/Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets.
