How to Prepare for AP LAWCET

Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test (AP LAWCET) is a common entrance examination for participating universities across the state of Andhra Pradesh for admission into the three- and five- year law courses. It is managed by the Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur on the behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE). The exam is conducted online in both Telugu and English.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The test consists of three parts. There is a total of 120 objective type questions, with 90 minutes available to answer them in. One mark is awarded for each correct answer. The examination is conducted in both Telugu and English.

Part A: General Knowledge and Mental Ability – 30 Questions

This section will include questions on History, Geography, Amendments, Important Days and Dates, Indian Constitution, Civics, National Insignia, New Appointments, International Deals, and related topics.

Part B: Current Affairs – 30 Questions

Questions from trending topics across the world may be asked, though there will be emphasis on the Indian context.

Part C: Aptitude for the Study of Law – 60 Questions

This section will involve basic questions from areas like the Indian Constitution, Torts, Criminal Law, Contracts, International Law, Polity, Legal Terms and Maxims, and general Legal Awareness.

For the five-year law course, the standard expected is of the Intermediate level and for the three-year law course, the standard expected is of the Degree level.

For the questions in Part-C, Aptitude for the Study of Law, candidates are expected to have elementary knowledge of the basic principles of Law and Constitution of India.

Preparing for the Exam

GK

There are several online and offline resources available to prepare GK from. You could also take quizzes online to break the monotony of merely reading. Noting down anything that seems relevant or important will surely prove beneficial. There might be focus on some issues peculiar to the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Current Affairs

Be consistent, read newspapers and follow online news websites. Ensure that you have an understanding of the happenings around you. Watching news channels will also help you analyse an issue from different angles, and will help especially if you are a visual learner.

Aptitude for the Study of Law

This is an important section. Though it is not necessary to delve too deep, it is imperative to have a grasp of the basic concepts and sections in areas of law such as torts, contracts, criminal law, family law, etc. You will also have to learn important articles of the constitution, and significant dates in India’s legal history. This can be learnt through various websites or from entrance-exam preparation books.

General Tips

Chart out a course of action: Make a list of strengths and weaknesses, sections in which you score well and those in which you do not. Make a list of topics that must be covered. Find out which method of studying works best for you. Develop an optimal strategy for attempting the exam.

Plan out a study timetable: Study whenever you can work. It is imperative that you do not alter your sleep cycles in order to do what someone else is doing. Remember to accommodate time for exercise and recreation, they are required to keep your mind fresh.

Set daily targets and ensure that you meet them: If you are going for classes, factor them in, but remember that self-study is absolutely essential. Set realistic targets, because if you plan to do more than what you can actually manage, you might get discouraged.

Look after your health: Ensure that you get adequate sleep (but do not oversleep). Eat healthy, wholesome food, because falling sick will cost you heavily in terms of time.

Prioritise: There will always be urges to go out with friends, watch movies, play games, attend family functions and the like, but remember that you can do these things even after the exam. Every moment you spend working will improve your chances of doing well in the exam. That being said, do take breaks, but do not take too many. And to ensure that you enjoy your breaks, ensure that you work hard when you are supposed to be working, otherwise that will keep playing on your mind when you are supposed to be taking a break.
