1. Overview

Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test (AP LAWCET) is a common entrance examination for participating universities across the state of Andhra Pradesh for admission into the three- and five-year law courses. It is managed by the Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur on the behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE). The exam is conducted online in both Telugu and English.

Eligibility:

Three-year course: Candidates seeking admission must have completed their graduation in any subject with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks from a recognized university. If a candidate secures less than 45% marks in his/her graduation, then he/she should have passed any additional graduate or postgraduate degree examination with a minimum of 45% (42% for BC and 40% for SC and ST students) aggregate marks.

Five-year course: Candidates applying for the five-year course must have completed their two-year Intermediate examination (10+2) pattern with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (42% for BC and 40% for SC and ST students) or equivalent from an institution that is recognized by the Board of Intermediate Education, AP or University concerned.

Candidates who apply must be Indian nationals and should satisfy local/non-local status requirements as laid down by the Andhra Pradesh Educational Institutions.

4. Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The test consists of three parts. There is a total of 120 objective-type questions, with 90 minutes available to answer them in. One mark is awarded for each correct answer. The examination is conducted in both Telugu and English.

Part A: General Knowledge and Mental Ability – 30 Questions

This section will include questions on History, Geography, Amendments, Important Days and Dates, Indian Constitution, Civics, National Insignia, New Appointments, International Deals, and related topics.

Part B: Current Affairs – 30 Questions

Questions from trending topics across the world may be asked, though there will be an emphasis on the Indian context.

Part C: Aptitude for the Study of Law – 60 Questions

This section will involve basic questions from areas like the Indian Constitution, Torts, Criminal Law, Contracts, International Law, Polity, Legal Terms and Maxims, and general Legal Awareness.

For the five-year law course, the standard expected is of the Intermediate level and for the three-year law course, the standard expected is of the Degree level.

For the questions in Part-C, Aptitude for the Study of Law, candidates are expected to have elementary knowledge of the basic principles of Law and the Constitution of India.

5. Exam Centers

AP LAWCET 2022 will be conducted in Anathapuram, Tirupathi, Kadapa, Chittoor, Kurnool, Nandyal, Nellore, Guntur, Ongole, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Bhimavaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Srikakulam, and Vijayanagaram.

6. Seat allotment:

Through AP LAWCET students will get around 2780 seats for BA LLB (5 years) course, 240 seats for BA LLB (5 years) course while 5866 seats will be available for BA LLB (3 years) in 33 participating institutes.

7. How to Apply?

Applications for AP LAWCET are through the online mode only. Online applications will tentatively start in the first week of March. The exam fee for General category students is 900/-, 850/- for BC students, and 800/- for SC/ST candidates. The exam fee can be paid via Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking methods only. A “Payment ID” will be generated on the successful completion of the payment.
